The Power of Vision

I have a few personal as well as career goals that I plan on achieving in the not so distant future.

First of all, I want to get my MBA in some area of finance. I am not precisely sure yet about my exact interest in finance. However, I plan on going to Columbia and this school requires at least 2 years of work experience. Therefore, after I graduate from Baruch I will work full time and a couple of years later I will apply to Columbia for their Master's program.

Another vision I have is starting a family after I graduate. I feel my family is the most important thing in my life as only my soul mate and my children can comfort me when I am distressed and support me in difficult situations. It is always nice to know that after a long workday I can come home and be welcomed and wanted by my family. In general, one's family has a positive effect on one's well being, in my opinion.

And my other goal is traveling. I feel like staying in the same place for a long time makes you apathetic and too comfortable. When I travel, it adds more excitement to my life and makes me want to learn more about other people and their cultures. I travel at least once a year. It does not matter if I go outside of US or to a different city in America. As long as my surroundings are changed, I feel excited and optimistic. I believe that traveling makes my life fuller and makes me more knowledgeable about the world as a whole.

These goals that I have listed above are not dreams. They are my future reality. I do think of my objectives on a regular basis, and I guide myself to the right path, the path that will inevitably bring me to the desired. As soon as I graduate, I will study for the GMAT, which is one of the main requirements in order to get into an MBA program. I don't think the family goal needs any explanation: I move in with my future husband and we just do it :). I realize it is a lot of responsibility but almost anything I do in life requires a substantial degree of responsibility. And of course, I will be traveling. Perhaps not in the beginning when my child is born but a couple of years later. I have been to Ukraine (which is my home country), Russia, Poland, Bulgaria, Turkey, some states outside of NY, and I look forward to visiting the entire world!

I like your travel vision, and the visions about starting a family and MBA are also good. Family would definitely create new meanings in life, and when you meet the right spouse there is no doubt you would be more happy. My family has been a great support, sometimes a pain but who can live without family. And I agree that good family would have positive effect on one's well being. Do you want to have a family after you complete your MBA of after your graduate from Baruch? well either way, Im sure you'll make a great wife and a mother with your positive views. Traveling is great, you can always learn new things through travel, and gain spectacular experiences. I enjoy travel as well, and if things work out for you (which Im sure it will) you can travel with your family. You have good visions and positive attitude and on top of that you put efforts into planning and your study. The only thing you need is time, so keep your visions in mind and you will reach them in the near future.

wow. I have similar visions about my future as you. I focus on my future career and traveling. I think the most interesting one is marriage and forming a family of your own. It will take a lot of responsibility to become a caring wife and a loving mother. It is challenging for those roles, and you will probably face different levels of adversities in life. But I am sure you can overcome all those. And of course, you can always find comfort and support from them. That is one great thing about family. One important thing I want to stress about family is communication and understanding. I think everything comes down to good communication and being patient especially in a family. From my own experience about my family, my parents and I usually argued because most of the time we didn't communicate. To be honest, I spend more time with my friends than with them. But I am sure you will have a happy family in the near future ^_^. And as for your business goal, you are halfway there. And after you find a stable job and high income, you can definitely take the time to do the traveling!!

I absolutely agree with you that family is a great "resource" to one's support and comfort. Having kids in home changes the ambience of the house! You have a clear goal of doing your masters which is great. Traveling is a great source of learning, and as you said it brings more excitement in life.

I think your goals are not dream, because I think you can achieve them. I hope you can find out your exact interest in the finance field soon, so it will be better for you to plan everything out. MBA degree seems logical, but it takes a lot of work, but I believe everyone can do it, but you just need to put a lot of efforts in it. I agree with you to the family part. I also think that family will be the place to comport and to relax. I think the hardest part of your goal might be the traveling, because it is hard to travel after you have children. So I guess the only way you can travel is probably before you have children and travel around with your husband and have the excitement that you need.

I got to agree with you on the reasoning for you traveling vision. I havent traveled much in my life until recently, and i really got to say its relieving. Even if its just for a weekend, leaving reality for a bit and going away.
The family thing thats one dream thats a challenging one but it has many rewards.
Good luck.

Traveling is on of the best things to do. It's a dream many pursue but only a few actually achieve. You should keep at following this goal. It is one that in the end will show you things about yourself that you never knew existed.

i like what you said about family is the most important thing in your life. i feel the same way. eventhough if there is one day you earn billions, but there isn't one family member that can support you, you wouldn't be happy. i feel that after all day of work, having a family member to talk about good and bad situation happened in work is better that looking at to wall alone. even some having a little agrument with them is better than sitting in front of the wall onlne.

We have such similar goals! It's definitely a bit more challenging that all these big business schools require a minimum of 2 years of industry experience before taking their MBA program. In the meantime, we can always study harder for the GMATS :)! As for traveling, it is necessary with such hectic schedules (Russia's great isn't it?! My babushka's born in Ukraine and brought me to Russia when I was younger). Good luck to you in all that you want to achieve!
